Blockchain Firm Securitize Raises $48M from Morgan Stanley and Blockchain Capital

Blockchain firm Securitize has announced it raised $48 million in a Series B round led by Blockchain Capital and Morgan Stanley Tactical Value. According to a press release, the investment round also included participants such as Ava Labs, IDC Ventures, Migration Capital, NTT Data and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank.

As part of the investment, Pedro Teixeira, Co-Head of Morgan Stanley Tactical Value, will join Securitize as its Board of Directors. The latest funding round comes as the company plans to launch its own marketplace for the trading of cryptocurrency securities called Securitize Markets.

Earlier in April, Morgan Stanley said in a regulatory filing it might allow to its certain institutional funds to invest "indirectly" in bitcoin through cash settled futures or indirectly through investments in Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (BTC). Twelve funds, including Developing Opportunity and Counterpoint Global, could put up to 25% of their total assets via subsidiaries.
