The inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, will auction source code of the Internet as a non-fungible token (NFT), Bloomberg has learned. The source code, which was written by the scientist in 1990 and 1991, will be tied to an NFT.

While it remains unclear on which blockchain the NFT will be sold, the code itself will be auctioned at Sotheby’s, one of the world's oldest auction houses. The buyer will get a "digital poster" that includes all 9,555 lines of code. The starting bid will be $1,000. The auction will be held from June 23 until June 30.
As iHodl earlier reported, Sotheby's now accepts cryptocurrency as payment via Coinbase Commerce. According to Sanchan Saxena, Vice President, Ecosystem at Coinbase, the trading platform supports payments estimated in the "eight-figure range." Meanwhile, Christie's, the British auction house, also sells NFT products after artist Mike Winkelmann, aka the digital artist Beeple, sold an NFT for a total of $69,346,250, which made the creator to be among the most expensive living artists to date.
