Wopke Hoekstra, the Finance Minister of the Netherlands, believes it is better to regulate cryptocurrencies than to ban them.
In response to a Dutch official who had called for a total ban on cryptocurrencies in the country, Hoekstra has said that in his opinion, the Netherlands should regulate the cryptocurrency market rather than ban them altogether, local publication NU.nl has reported.

However, he has also not forgotten about the risks involved in this type of assets, as he has acknowledged that the concerns of the director of the Dutch Bureau for Economic Analysis, Pieter Hasekamp, who has recently called for a ban on Bitcoin mining, trading and holding, are not unfounded.
However, the country's finance minister believes the best solution is to develop a regulatory framework for virtual asset service providers aimed at reducing the risks associated with money laundering.
In addition, he believes the European Union should supervise the cryptocurrency market.
