Coincheck to Conduct Japan's First IEO

Cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck has announced plans for Japan's first initial exchange offering (IEO). According to a statement, the Tokyo-based exchange will give away tokens of Hashpalette Inc (HPT). Coincheck says tokens issued by companies and projects"enable the construction of open, decentralized networks."

The exchange noted that it began thinking about the IEO business back in August 2020, when it joined forces with Hashpalette with the goal to realize Japan's first IEO. However, it remains unknown when exactly Coincheck is going to conduct the IEO.

Japanese Court Allows Confiscation of Coincheck Hack Funds

In February this year, Coincheck acquired 100% share of Metaps Alpha, a blockchain-focused NFT developer. With the acquisition, Coincheck got control over an on-chain NFT marketplace called miime.io, which was launched back in September 2019.
