Technology giants' coming to the currency area could be a "real threat to the autonomy and independence of central banks," Lars Rohde, the Governor of Denmark's central bank, said in an interview with Bloomberg. Rohde also added he is "tempted to ignore" cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin), as they are very speculative assets "at best."

"There is no stability and no guarantee from any side about the value of cryptocurrencies," he said.

It is worth mentioning though that this is not the first time when Rohde alarms over bitcoin's volatility. Back then, Rohde named bitcoin a "dead" asset and advised investors to stay away from the cryptocurrency.
