Coinbase Hires Ex-Goldman Sachs as Chief Policy Officer

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has hired ex-Goldman Sachs Global Co-Head of Government Affairs, Faryar Shirzad, as its new Chief Policy Officer. According to a blog announcement, Faryar will contact with lawmakers and regulators to expand crypto's potential to a more "equitable financial system."

"At Coinbase, we see collaboration with policymakers around the world as necessary to unlock the full potential of the cryptoeconomy, but also as a competitive advantage for our business," the exchange said.

Prior to Goldman Sachs, where he spent 15 years, managing the firm's government relations and public policy strategy, Faryar also served on the staff of the National Security Council at the White House as Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs.

He also served as Assistant Secretary for Import Administration at the US Department of Commerce and previously as International Trade Counsel to the US Senate Committee on Finance.

As iHodl reported, Coinbase, which went public on the NASDAQ last April, may also be interested in buying asset manager Osprey Funds. According to two sources familiar with the negotiations, they are still informal but are being conducted at a high level. However, neither Coinbase nor Osprey Funds have made any comments.
