International environmental NGO Greenpeace has stopped accepting Bitcoin donations. A representative of the organization has told the Financial Times this option of making donations was hardly used. He added:
"As the amount of energy needed to run Bitcoin became clearer, this policy became no longer tenable."

Greenpeace's US division had been accepting BTC donations since 2014. The NGO announced then:
"A majority of our support comes from individual donations made by thousands of people across the country… meaning that we have to be constantly evolving to ensure that donors are able to support our important work in the way that’s most convenient for them. It is a new digital currency and people are starting to take notice. So much so that we thought the time was right for Greenpeace to start accepting them. Bitcoin processers charge less for processing fees than centralized banks meaning your donation means even more to protecting the environment."
Greenpeace accepted Bitcoins through processing service BitPay. The corresponding page of the platform informs that the NGO no longer accepts BTC.
Elon Musk, who announced last week Tesla was no longer accepting Bitcoin as a payment method for the same reason, has brought the crypto's energy consumption problem back to the table.
