Baillie Gifford Puts $100M in Blockchain.com

Baillie Gifford, an investment management firm, has put $100 million into a cryptocurrency custodian Blockchain.com. In an announcement, Blockchain.com Co-Founder and CEO, Peter Smith, said that the Edinburgh-based fund manager not only participated in a recent $300M Series C funding, but also made the largest single investment in Blockchain.com to date.

"They keep a low profile, have exacting standards, and are invaluable partners to Blockchain.com as we grow," said Smith.

While it remains unknown how the company will use the investment, the Blockchain.com CEO said the company will enhance its work to bring the next 1 billion people into the cryptocurrency market. Baillie Gifford is known as one of the UK's largest and oldest investment management firms. Baillie Gifford was one of the early investors in Amazon, Airbnb, Google, Tesla, SpaceX, Spotify, Palantir and many more.

As iHodl earlier reported, Blockchain.com attracted $300 million during its latest funding round, resulting in the company's valuation reaching $5.2 billion. Participants in the funding round included DST Global, Lightspeed Venture Partners and VY Capital, among others.
