Newegg, a major US online retailer specializing in the sale of computer components and consumer electronics, has started accepting Dogecoin as an "official payment method" for orders on its website.

Newegg noted the retailer became in 2014 one of the first e-commerce retailers to accept Bitcoin and is now one of the first to accept Dogecoin. Newegg brand manager Andrew Choi said:

"The excitement and momentum around cryptocurrency are undeniable, and the recent surge in Dogecoin value underscores the need to make it easier for customers to make purchases with this popular cryptocurrency."

The retailer has turned to the services of BitPay, which added support for DOGE in March, to process Dogecoin transactions. Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus has said:

"Did you know Newegg accepts Dogecoin to make purchases? So if anyone asks 'What can you even buy with a meme currency?!' You can respond something like 'Well, TVs, computers, cameras, playstations, software, video games, tech accessories, appliances, furniture, smart home...'"
