BlackRock CEO, Larry Fink, believes cryptocurrencies can one day become "a great asset class." In an interview with CNBC, Fink said the firm is already studying the cryptocurrency market. He also added the firm "makes money on it," however, BlackRock is not seeing "broad-based interest by institutions worldwide."

"Maybe they are talking to somebody else, so I do not want to suggest that we have perfect information," Fink noted.

BlackRock CIO Says Investing in Bitcoin Makes More Sense Now

Fink's statement comes after the world's largest investment manager started trading bitcoin through the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) regulated futures. According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), BlackRock held 37 contracts with an expiration date of March 26.
