Binance and Huobi Invest $2M in UNICEF

Cryptocurrency exchanges Binance and Huobi have pledged a total of $2 million to UNICEF to achieve vaccine equality and drive social impact through blockchain. According to Binance Charity, the non-profit organization made a $1 million donation to UNICEF-Luxembourg to ensure global equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. Meanwhile, Huobi Charity committed $1 million in bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) and fiat currency to help "foster global blockchain development."

Sandra Visscher, Executive Director of UNICEF Luxembourg, says that vaccines do not only save lives, but also "contribute to a return to normal." While Binance's funds will help cover all the costs of delivering more than 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines within low- and middle-income countries, Huobi's will be distributed to the UNICEF CryptoFund, a fund focused on financing early stage, open-source technology that can benefit children, UNICEF said.

In January this year, Binance Charity donated over $60,000 to help healthcare workers in fight with the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico. The donations were reportedly used to buy KN95 masks and distributed among three hospitals in Mexico City which were affected by the pandemic.
