Signal, a cross-platform encrypted messenger, has added support for cryptocurrency payments on its platform. According to an announcement, the messenger now supports the MobileCoin ecosystem with its own cryptocurrency MOB. The cryptocurrency can be linked to the messenger via Signal Payments, a payment processor.

Users can now send MOB to friends and family, receive funds from them, keep track of balance, the company said. The conversion of MOB is done by a third-party — a cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The messenger says it will also be possible to convert to/from MOB on other exchanges soon. Initially, the beta is starting in the United Kingdom.

Signal Foundation Starts Accepting Donations in Cryptocurrencies

iHodl first reported about possible listing of MobileCoin's token on the Signal platform in January this year. Signal's employees already sounded alarm as the company’s exploration of cryptocurrency could involve "more bad actors onto the platform and attract regulatory scrutiny from world leaders."
