New York governor Andrew Cuomo has just announced a passport based on IBM's blockchain intended to prove that its holders have tested negative for covid (PCR or antigens tests) or have been vaccinated.

The passport, which is already live, will be able to be printed or stored on users' smartphones via the Excelsior Pass Wallet app, in the same way as airline boarding passes are.

The document will allow confirmation that its holder has tested negative on a PCR or antigen test or received the covid-19 vaccine, which will supposedly help speed the reopening of businesses and event venues.

At the moment, Madison Square Garden and the Times Union Center have reported they plan to implement this mechanism.

Cuomo unveiled his plans to launch a vaccination passport powered by blockchain technology last March 2, following a successful test of the system at an NBA game.
