The author of the column assures the funds raised will go to the Neediest Cases Fund, a fund created by the NYT that supports social causes in New York and elsewhere.
In addition, the buyer also has the right to appear in a follow-up article about the sale, however, the buyer may also choose not to reveal his or her identity.
The New York Times is not the only publication that has experimented with NFTs. Thus, popular magazine TIME has sold 3 covers for 81 ETH (about $131,000), while Quartz sold its first news article as an NFT for 1 ETH.
