Electric vehicle maker Tesla has officially started accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment on its website. The company CEO Elon Musk announced the new means of payment via his official Twitter account:

At the moment, this payment method is only available in the US and may not appear in the cached version of the site. Tesla has said it plans to consider adding this new payment method for residents in other regions in the future.

After checking the order details, users will be redirected to the payment page, which will display the payment address in the form of a QR code and in alphanumeric format, as well as the amount to be paid in Bitcoin. First of all, they have to pay a $100 fee for placing the order, which means they will have to send the transactions and pay for their processing in the Bitcoin network twice.

Tesla has stressed it is not responsible if the funds are sent to an incorrect address and may cancel the order if it does not receive the full amount. After successful payment, the customer will receive a notification to the e-mail address provided when placing the order.

Tesla unveiled its plans to start working with Bitcoin in early February, when it was known the company had invested $1.5B in the crypto.
