The Signal Technology Foundation, a non-profit company behind the Signal messenger, has started accepting donations in cryptocurrencies. The donations are processed by The Giving Block, a company focused on crypto donations for non-profit organizations.

As of press time, users can make a donation with the following cryptocurrencies: bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin), ether (ETH), basic attention token (BAT), amp (AMP), bitcoin cash (BCH), chainlink (LINK), dai (DAI), gemini dollar (GUSD), litecoin (LTC), storj (STORJ), zcash (ZEC) and 0x (ZRX).
The organization was founded in 2018 by Moxie Marlinspike and Brian Acton. The foundation's mission is to develop "open source privacy technology that protects free expression and enables secure global communication."
Earlier this year, iHodl reported that Signal was testing new features, including cryptocurrency payments, as its user base grew beyond 40 million users globally. Casey Newton, Founder of Platformer, said new features would make it "vulnerable to abuse." Signal's employees also sounded alarm as the company’s exploration of cryptocurrency could involve "more bad actors onto the platform and attract regulatory scrutiny from world leaders."
