Basketball club Dallas Mavericks has just become the first in the NBA to accept Dogecoin as a means of payment, owner Mark Cuban has said. Explaining the reasons behind his decision, the billionaire said:
"Because we can! Sometimes in business you have to do things that are fun, engaging and hopefully generate a lot of PR. So we will take dogecoin, today, tomorrow and possibly forever."

In order to process transactions with the meme cryptocurrency, the Dallas Mavericks will rely on BitPay, which has been processing Bitcoin payments since 2019 for the club to allow the purchase of tickets and merchandising. Dogecoin support has been added to the platform today, and Dallas Mavericks has become the first customer to take advantage of the opportunity.
Cuban has told fans of the club who are unfamiliar with Dogecoin the following:
"Ask your teenage children who use TikTok. They will be able to explain it all to you."
Cuban announced in February he had bought Dogecoin for his 11-year-old son for educational purposes.
