Thailand's Largest Cinema Chain Starts Accepting BTC

Thailand's largest movie theater operator Major Cineplex Group has just started allowing its customers to pay with Bitcoin to buy tickets, local publication Siam Rath reports.

According to the media outlet, the movie theater operator has decided to start accepting the largest cryptocurrency on the market as a payment method as part of its crypto payment pilot program aimed at supporting innovation and new technologies.

Major Cineplex Group has started accepting Bitcoin thanks to its partnership with local cryptocurrency exchange Zipmex and digital payments firm RapidZ.

The users of the cinema operator could buy tickets with Bitcoin for the first time yesterday at the Major Cineplex Ratchayothin cinema in Bangkok. To do so, users were able to make their payments by presenting a QR code.

According to the company, it plans to expand its pilot project to 39 other cinemas in Bangkok by the end of 2021.

It must be noted this is the first time a Thai cinema has accepted cryptos as a payment method.
