Ex-CFTC Chairman Invests in Crypto Firm BlockTower Capital

Former US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman, Christopher Giancarlo, and billionaire hedger fund manager, Marc Lasry, have invested in a cryptocurrency-focused investment firm called BlockTower Capital, Bloomberg reports.

While the investment amount remains undisclosed, Lasry made an investment independent of his firm — Avenue Capital Group, said a person familiar with the matter. BlockTower was co-founded right in the middle of the well-known crypto bull run in 2017 by Matthew Goetz, ex-Goldman Sachs investment manager, and Ari Paul, a former portfolio manager for the University of Chicago's $8 billion endowment.

Earlier in February, BlockTower Capital CIO, Ari Paul, said in a tweet that the cryptocurrency market has from 9 to 22 months before the price of bitcoin gets between the $100,000-$400,000 mark.
