Ex-Bank of England Governor Joins Stripe

Former Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, has joined Stripe's board of directors. According to an official announcement, Carney will help the company with his experience of global financial systems and governance.

"As the UN Special Envoy for Climate Action, Mark has galvanized climate action and private finance ahead of the forthcoming COP26 conference in Glasgow," the announcement says.

Mark Carney says Stripe has been at the "forefront of enabling this new digital economy, providing innovative and resilient global payment solutions to businesses large and small."

"In the process, Stripe has been breaking down barriers to global trade and accelerating economic output," Carney added.

In October 2019, Stripe and eBay left the Libra Association due to sustained political pressure. Back then, eBay's spokesperson said that the company highly respected the vision of the Libra Association, however, "eBay had made the decision to not move forward as a founding member."
