Berkshire Hathaway Quietly Buys Verizon and Chevron Shares

Berkshire Hathaway, owned by popular investor Warren Buffett, has reported on investments made during the fourth quarter of 2020. The holding company has announced a block of shares it secretly bought during the third quarter of last year.

As a result, Berkshire Hathaway bought 146.7 million shares of Verizon Communications for $8.6B. Buffett's company also acquired 48.5 million shares of Chevron for $4.1B as well as 4.3 million shares of insurance broker Marsh & McLennan for $499.3M.

During the fourth quarter, Berkshire Hathaway increased its holdings in pharmaceutical companies AbbVie, Bristol-Myers and Merck & Co. At the same time, the company sold all its Pfizer shares.

Between October and December 2020, the company sold stakes in Barrick Gold, JPMorgan, M&T Bank and PNC Financial.
