Christine Lagarde, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB), has said that, in her opinion, central banks will not hold Bitcoin in the short term, she said during a conference call with The Economist.

During the conference, she said that "it is very unlikely, I would say it's out of the question" that central banks would make such a move, Business Insider has reported.

It should be noted this is not the first time the ECB president has made negative statements regarding the largest cryptocurrency on the market. Thus, she has previously said BTC is highly speculative and is used for "funny business" and, as a result, it should be regulated.

Nevertheless, Lagarde has admitted the covid-19 pandemic has boosted the demand for digital currencies, something that is reflected in the fact that the ECB itself is considering issuing a digital euro. In particular, the president of the institution also said the digital euro may be ready within 4 years.
