Crypto Exchange Livecoin Shuts Down

The representatives of the cryptocurrency exchange Livecoin, which suffered a hacker attack in December, announced on January 16 their decision to close the platform. The exchange wrote:

"Our service has been damaged hard in technical and financial way. There is no way to continue operative business in these conditions."

In order to receive payments, the platform users must send an e-mail with their username and registration date to verify@livecoin.news. Once done, they will receive additional instructions to complete the verification of their identity:

"Requests are accepted only from the e-mail used for registration in our service. Please use English or Russian languages only."

The reception of payment requests will be open until March 17.

The representatives of the platform have also warned about fake groups in several messaging services intended to deceive users. The platform has reported official information is only published on the livecoin.news site:

"Do not send money to anyone. You don't have to pay to get back your funds from us, the only thing you need is to send a request and follow simple procedure."

Some users have reported the specified Livecoin e-mail address is not available. At the same time, others have already sent refund requests. The following documents must be submitted:

  • Details of the first deposit.
  • Scanned copy of the passport.
  • Scanned copy of a document with the address of the place of residence.
  • Selfie with passport and a sheet of paper with the date of registration in the exchange.
  • The model of the device used to access the exchange.
  • Source of funds.
  • A video in which the transaction ID of the first deposit must be demonstrated, showing the face and passport, as well as stating the name, date and verbally confirming the legality of the source of funds.

On December 24, Livecoin announced it had suffered a "carefully planned attack." Withdrawals from the platform are no longer available.

The hackers reportedly stole 106 BTC, 361 ETH and 236 BCH.
