Acting Comptroller of the Currency Brian Brooks has stepped down from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) after eight months of service. According to an announcement, Brooks will be replaced on January 14, 2021, by Blake Paulson.

Brooks says he is "extremely proud" of what the watchdog has accomplished through extraordinary times.

"The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is the most extraordinary of federal agencies filled with the most dedicated, professional, and gifted staff any executive can hope to have," Brooks noted.

During his eight months as Acting Comptroller, Brooks sufficiently pushed forward the US banking sector towards digitization, allowing US banks to hodl cryptocurrencies as a custodian and using stablecoins for wire.

One of the OCC's latest pro-crypto decisions was the approval of a national trust bank charter to Anchorage after "thorough review of the company and its current operations." The regulator said that with the approval, the bank and the whole industry will benefit.

Brooks was nominated to serve a full five-year period by outgoing President Donald Trump back in November 2020.
