Lionsgate, an American-Canadian entertainment company, has acquired the thriller about bitcoin-based darknet marketplace called Silk Road, Deadline reports.

The movie, which is set for release in February 2021, described as a crime thriller about Ross Ulbricht, a person behind the notorious darknet market.
"Philosophical twenty-something Ross Ulbricht creates Silk Road, a dark net website that sells narcotics, while DEA agent Rick Bowden goes undercover to bring him down," the synopsis say.
Silk Road is based on the Rolling Stone article "Dead End On Silk Road" by David Kushner. Silk Road was launched in February 2011. The online marketplace and the first modern darknet market was well known as a service for selling illegal drugs.
In November 2020, iHodl reported that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a complaint to forfeit 69,370 bitcoin (EXANTE: BTC), bitcoin gold (BTG), bitcoin SV (BSV) and bitcoin cash (BCH) from an unknown individual (1HQ3Go3ggs8pFnXuHVHRytPCq5fGG8Hbh) who allegedly moved the cryptocurrency from Silk Road, an online black market and the first modern darknet market.
