Some unknown attackers have tricked GoDaddy's employees and managed to control the domains of several crypto platforms. According to KrebsOnSecurity, the attacks started on November 13.
The first victim was the crypto exchange Liquid. The hosting provider transferred the control of the account and domain to an unidentified attacker, who modified the DNS records and took control of several internal e-mail accounts.
Liquid CEO Mike Kayamori said the hacker managed to gain partial access to the platform's system and gain access to the document storage. The exchange claims the assets have not been compromised.
The second victim was the cloud mining service NiceHash. On November 18, experts identified an unauthorized change in GoDaddy's DNS configuration. As a result, e-mails and web traffic were redirected for a short period of time.
NiceHash froze the withdrawals for 24 hours until it checked the configuration had returned to its original state. The platform has asked users to update their passwords as well as their two-factor authentication method.
Other crypto platforms have also been affected by the attack, including Bibox, Celsius and Wirex.
A representative of the hosting provider has recognized the problem with "a small number" of user domains. Several employees have reportedly been victims of a social engineering scam.
