Online short-term rental service Airbnb has just submitted a document on its IPO to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In the document, the company talks about the possibility of adding crypto payments in the future. Airbnb writes:
Subscribe to our Telegram channel to stay up to date on the latest crypto and blockchain news.
"Our future success will also depend on our ability to adapt to emerging technologies such as tokenization, cryptocurrencies, new authentication technologies."
Airbnb also mentions distributed ledger and blockchain along with biometrics, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality as possible directions for future development. Company representatives say:
"As a result, we intend to continue to spend significant resources maintaining, developing, and enhancing our technologies and platform; however, these efforts may be more costly than expected and may not be successful."
Airbnb had previously said it does not intend to accept Bitcoin as payment method, however, it acquired crypto tipping startup ChangeTip back in 2016.
