Popular cryptocurrency exchange Binance has started to block US users, The Block has reported.

It should be noted the news should not surprise anyone, as the exchange announced back in July last year its intention to stop offering its services to residents in the country.

However, this blockade does not seem to be too effective, as US residents can still create accounts by simply selecting the "I'm not American" option during the exchange's registration process.

The platform has begun sending users whose IP addresses belong to the US e-mails informing them of the following:

"We noted your account may be associated with the U.S. due to an IP address you connected from in the past. In-line with regulatory requirements, we are unable to provide services to U.S. citizens or residents. If you are a U.S. citizen or resident, please transfer your assets out of your account within 90 days."

The exchange is suggesting users to use Binance U.S. instead, which was created specifically for US residents.
