Alpaca City, the fledgling crypto project that combines yield farming with NFTs, has unveiled its latest characters. "Albiden" and "Trumpaca" are the names of the special guests who’ll be taking up residence in Alpaca City, having spawned from a parallel universe – or so the story goes. The duo have been placed on Open Sea, where interested parties can bid for the presidential candidates.
Alpaca City Serves Its Latest Characters Ultra-Rare
Donald Trump is famously known for liking his steaks well done, much to the chagrin of gourmands the world over. When it comes to NFTs, however, Trumpaca is as rare as it gets. Just one alpaca rendered in the US president’s likeness has been created and one of electoral rival Joe Biden – or Albiden as he’s known here.
Crypto Kitties but with alpacas (the game even uses the same artwork as the original Ethereum NFT game), Alpaca City has seen a flurry of interest since launching less than a month ago. The virtual world enables players to adopt an alpaca by buying the creatures on NFT marketplace Open Sea. More than 100 owners have already done so, paying an average of 0.2 ETH for the cutesy, colorful characters. The record paid for an alpaca to date on the marketplace stands at 4.3 ETH. But that figure could be surpassed when the newest alpacas are auctioned off on November 3.
Fighting Alpacas Go Toe to Toe
In the wild, alpacas are docile creatures that are not prone to aggression or violence. A species of South American camelid mammal, the creatures bear similarities to the llama but are smaller in size. Despite their placid nature, the Trumpaca and Albiden alpacas are discernibly feister than usual. Indeed, the pair are competing in what Alpaca City has dubbed a "MMA fight," the outcome of which will determine their final owners.
The auction began on November 1 at 19:00 PST and will run for 48 hours, with a starting bid of just 0.1 ETH. After the auction has concluded, however, is when things get really interesting. As Alpaca City explains, whoever wins the MMA fight "will be entitled to take away the final price paid by the final bidder of the losing side (fees deducted)." In addition, the final bidder of the winner will get their final price paid refunded.
NFTs Meet Yield Farming
ALPA is the native token of Alpaca City, and will be earnable through yield farming when this product launches. ALPA can be spent to increase NFT rareness by breeding or buying alpaca accessories. The game’s tokenomics have been designed so as to reward regular players, while making it harder for whales to hog all the rewards. Combining NFTs with yield farming has become a regular motif in defi over the last two months, with a string of projects pioneering ways of adding multiplier bonuses and other rewards administered through acquiring rare non-fungible tokens.
Following the success of MEME, whose token was airdropped and rose to be worth over $1,700 at its peak, there have come projects such as yTSLA, DMT and Chad Finance. Alpaca City is now following in their footsteps while showing how smart use of NFTs can align incentives between participants and create a fairer system for distributing tokens.
