Crypto Scammers Hack Donald Trump's Campaign Website
Main page News, Donald Trump, Hacker Attack

Last night, some scammers hacked the US presidential campaign site.

The attackers have changed the content of the "About Us" page and introduced Monero addresses. The attackers have also posted a notice claiming they have comprised "multiple devices that gave full access to Trump and relatives."

The hackers claim they have accessed information that reportedly confirms the Trump administration's involvement in the spread of the coronavirus, as well as its personal involvement in criminal activity and cooperation with foreign actors in order to manipulate the US elections.

The attackers have provided two Monero addresses, offering users to send coins to one of them if they want to have the secrets revealed, and to the other if they want them to keep secret. Specifically, they say:

"After the deadline we will compare the funds and execute the will of the world. In both cases we will inform you."

The page has the same design as the notices the FBI displays when a domain is confiscated. Trump's campaign communications director, Tim Murtaugh, has confirmed the hack:

"Earlier this evening, the Trump campaign website was defaced and we are working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the source of the attack. There was no exposure to sensitive data because none of it is actually stored on the site. The website has been restored."

Trump announced shortly thereafter:

"Nobody gets hacked. To get hacked you need somebody with 197 IQ and he needs about 15 percent of your password."

Victor Gevers, director of the Dutch Institute for Vulnerability Disclosure, announced last week he had accessed Trump's Twitter account with the password "maga2020!" on his fifth attempt. He claims the president's account was not secured with two-factor authentication, and that the password was changed after reporting the access to the US Department of Homeland Security.
