A month later, Bitfinex publicly offered a reward of up to $400 million in an attempt to recover 120,000 BTC (EXANTE: Bitcoin) it had lost during as a result of the hacker attack back in 2016.

The exchange decided to "offer a reward to any persons that connect us with hackers responsible for the unauthorized transfer of almost 120,000 bitcoins from the exchange in August 2016. As part of the same initiative, Bitfinex is also offering a reward to the hackers themselves for the return of the stolen property."

As of press time, Bitfinex only managed to recover 27 BTC out of the 120,000 that were stolen from the platform.
