The IRS has just signed a $249,000 contract with Blockchain Analytics and Tax Services LLC, a little known company in the industry, to provide the institution with blockchain analysis tools.

The contract, which is valid for 12 months, will give the IRS access to Blockchain Analytics tools for 120 of its employees. The US Treasury paid $9,800 to the company for an expert witness contract some time ago.

Shortly before this, the RS Criminal Investigation Department announced it was looking for tools to track Monero transactions and activity on second layer networks, including Bitcoin's Lightning Network.

The IRS has also expressed its interest in acquiring a blockchain analysis software developed by the US crypto exchange Coinbase.
