The hacker gained access to the resource base through the account of the CryptoTrader.Tax support employee.

As a result, it dumped user data, including names, email addresses, partial information about income from transactions with cryptocurrency and information about profiles in payment systems.

According to CryptoTrader.Tax Co-founder David Kemmerer, the hacker downloaded a file with a database of 13,000 lines, of which 1,082 are unique email addresses.

Kemmerer claims user accounts have not been compromised. After the theft, the hacker posted advertisements for the sale of the database on darknet forums.

CryptoTrader.Tax has support for 36 cryptocurrency exchanges. With it, users can calculate how much taxes they have to pay and prepare the appropriate documentation.

In November, the BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange leaked thousands of user private data. Some clients of the exchange received letters containing the email addresses of other users.

The real scale of the leak had not been disclosed.
