An open-source distributed ledger IOTA (MIOTA) has been recognized as a "Key Innovator" in the H2020 +CityxChange research program.
Back in 2018, the +CityxChange program received investments from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program in the call for ‘Smart cities and communities.’
The cities of Trondheim, Limerick, Písek, Alba Iulia, Smolyan, Sestao and Võru will study how to become leading cities integrating smart positive energy solutions.
"Through the use of digital services, the quality of life for and together with the citizens shall be improved, more energy produced than consumed, and experiences with cities across Europe exchanged to learn faster together," states the official website of the program.
The program received funding of €30 million. The program end date is scheduled on October 31, 2023.
The European research program Horizon 2020 has funded the project with €20 million. Another €10 million was raised from project partners who have invested in their innovative solutions in the cities of Trondheim and Limerick.
The + CityxChange project was approved by independent experts. Analysts hope that in the future, similar improvements can be made throughout Europe. IOTA Foundation Development Head Wilfried Pimenta has ambitious plans for blockchain implementation.
