YouTube's lawyers have asked the court to dismiss the charges against the company for failing to prevent the actions of crypto scammers, Law360 has reported.

Ripple has filed a lawsuit against YouTube claiming its brand reputation has been affected by cyber criminals using the platform to make fraudulent giveaways and steal cryptos on its behalf. Ripple has stated:

"YouTube, other major technology companies and social networks should be held accountable for not having enough fraud prevention measures."

However, YouTube claims the rights of the platform in this case are protected by federal law and that it is not liable for the content published by third parties:

"Plaintiffs wish to hold YouTube liable for not acting more aggressively to monitor, block, and remove the material that third-party fraudsters have posted. The law categorically bars such claims and requires dismissal with prejudice of plaintiffs' state-law causes of action."

Ripple wants YouTube to be proactive about stopping fraud and responding to potential fraud cases more quickly. According to Ripple, in one case last fall, the platform took two months to block a fake account opened under the name of the company CEO Brad Garlinghouse.

In addition, Ripple wants YouTube to set up algorithms capable of identifying scams.
