The FBI has launched an investigation into the attack on Twitter. The agency has reportedly contacted several companies to assist with the investigation. Companies such as Chainalysis and CipherTrace have been contacted by the FBI to provide tools to analyze blockchain transactions.
In addition, the US Senate has also something to say regarding the incident. Authorities are concerned about the security of user data on Twitter, since most of them are US residents. The Senate Intelligence Committee has requested information about the incident, while Senator Josh Hawley has sent a personal letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey expressing his concern and demanding an explanation. Hawley has written:
"A successful attack on your system’s servers represents a threat to all of your users’ privacy and data security."
For his part, Senator Roger Wicker has admitted that in the future, such attacks could be used to spread misinformation on behalf of famous people, mainly heads of state, and to manipulate society.
On July 15, a group of unknown hackers hacked into the Twitter accounts of Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and many others. They posted a message promising 5,000 BTCs via the Cryptoforhealth website.
Coinbase, Gemini, KuCoin, Gate.io, Bitfinex, OKEx, CoinDesk, Litecoin creator Charlie Lee, the TRON Foundation and its CEO Justin Sun have also been affected by the attack. At the same time, at least some of them were using two-factor authentication. Shortly thereafter, the accounts of Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Ripple were also hacked.
