Blockchain network of a privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash (ZEC) has experienced a hard fork at block 903000.

The so-called Heartwood upgrade improves interoperability through Flyclient support and allows the cryptocurrency miners to protect mining rewards in coinbase transactions.

The upgrade has been successfully activated by the Zcash Foundation and the Electric Coin Company (ECC).

The Heartwood upgrade also makes it possible to anonymously mine the ZEC token.

Earlier, Zcash miners were only able to send mining rewards to a transparent address, ECC wrote in an official statement.

Since the hard fork is not backward compatible, all nodes must update their software in order to successfully sync with the new Zcash blockchain.

iHodl previously reported that a cryptocurrency mining company Argo doubled its investments in mining cryptocurrency ZEC.

Argo purchased 750 Bitmain Z11 mining units for $474,000 to add to the Company's existing 1,000 Bitmain Z11 mining units.

One of the largest currencies that use the Equihash algorithm is ZEC. Previously, Argo had 1,000 Antminer Z11 miners.

The main focus of Argo is bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) mining. In May, the company said that out of the 18,000 miners it had, 17,000 were adapted to work with the SHA-256 algorithm.
