Crypto-focused news resource BlockTV has shut down due to economic problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic, CoinDesk has reported quoting two former employees of the company.

The startup has already ceased its operations at its Tel Aviv office after laying off its remaining 35 employees. BlockTV COO Noa Tamir said:

"The Covid-19 crisis affected us strongly and we had to close down BLOCKTV. We’re very proud with the brand we built and with all the fresh content and news we brought to the Blockchain and Crypto community. Hopefully we’ll be able to bring BLOCKTV back to life in the future."

BlockTV was rolled out last year with the support of crypto entrepreneur Moshe Hogeg. In November, the project unsuccessfully tried to raise $2M through the sale of BLTV tokens on Bittrex.

The price of the BLTV token has dropped by 70% since it was launched. Before the coronavirus crisis, BlockTV planned to open a studio in New York during the first quarter of 2020.

New York-based blockchain media startup Civil recently announced its closure after 4 years of operations.
