Hackers Threaten to Publish Legal Information on Celebrities

A hacker or group of hackers have managed to access almost 1TB of legal data belonging to stars around the world, including singers and actors such as Lady Gaga, Elton John, Robert DeNiro and Madonna, and have threatened to make it public if they do not receive a payment, probably in Bitcoin.

They have reportedly managed to access this data after breaking into the system of a popular New York law firm.

In particular, the law firm Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks has been the victim of a REvil ransomware attack (also known as Sodinokibi) in which the hackers have gained access to 756GB of data.

The hacked information includes confidential contracts, phone numbers, email addresses, personal correspondence, non-disclosure agreements and more.

Even though the amount the attackers are asking for has not been disclosed, it will invariably be paid with Bitcoin.

It looks like the attackers plan to publish the information gradually in order to increase the pressure on the victims and make sure the payment is made.

It should be noted the firm represents a large number of celebrities such as AC/DC, Barbara Streisand, U2, Madonna, Maroon 5, Robert De Niro or Shania Twain and companies such as Facebook, IMAX, Sony or HBO.
