The developers of the Ethereum 2.0 have launched a testnet that supports multiple clients. According to developer Eric Conner, only two clients have joined the testnet so far: Prysm and Lighthouse.
Before the official launch of the Ethereum 2.0 network, developers must make sure all available clients can interact correctly in the new blockchain and consensus algorithm. The description in GitHub of the network says:
"Before such a mainnet can be launched, we need testnets that mimic mainnet conditions as good as possible. This requires us to have stable, long-term, and persistent testnets up and running that are supported by not only one client but multiple clients, ideally, all clients. The Schlesi testnet is one of many steps in that direction."
Participants in this testnet will not receive real rewards, however, the network is not a simulation, but a complete testnet for the end user with a "slightly modified mainnet configuration." Anyone can join the network as a validator or node to test the mechanisms that will later be launched on the ETH 2.0 network.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin had recently suggested the developers would launch the ETH 2.0 testnet with support for several clients in late April.
