Blockstream chief strategy officer Samson Mow recently said through his official Twitter account Bitmain's Antminer S17 and T17 have significantly higher failure rates than other equipment.
According to him, the failure rate of the Antminer S17 and T17 is 20-30%, a much higher figure than the average of 5%.
It looks like the failures are related to two specific parts responsible for regulating the heat of the devices. Heat sinks are falling off in some machines, while fans simply stop, which is causing the devices to overheat and stop working.
According to Samson Mow, Bitmain CEO Jihan Wu accused Micree Zhan, the company's cofounder, of being responsible for the technical problems these devices were experiencing. Zhan was fired from the company in October 2019.
The mining giant has not made any public statement so far. These technical problems come right when the company is going through difficult times as a result of its bad economic situation.
However, the company has recently launched new devices. iHodl reported last month Bitmain had announced the price and delivery date of its new S19 Antminers.
