Popular American cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase hired Brett Tejpaul, a former executive at Barclays, one of the UK's biggest financial institutions.

According to an official announcement, Tejpaul will serve as Coinbase's new Head of Institutional Coverage.

Tejpaul spent over 15 years in various positions in both the US and the UK. At Barclays, Tejpaul had been serving as Global Head of Sales (across all of Fixed Income and Equities) and Global Head of Credit and Commodities.

He also managed Barclays’ fintech venture investments.

"In his new role at Coinbase, Brett and his teams in New York, San Francisco, the UK and Asia will be focused on the continued institutionalization of crypto," the announcement says.

In August 2019, the British bank halted business with Coinbase. As a result of the termination of the relationship with the bank, Coinbase lost access to the payment system, making fiat money transfers take several days to process.

Even though the exchange started to work with ClearBank, the change had affected the platform's services.

Earlier iHodl reported that ex-Barclays CTO and Head of Technology for the Barclays Group Mark Hipperson was considering to launch his own cryptocurrency-focused digital bank in 2020.
