The US Department of Justice has accused Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro Moros with the other 14 Venezuelan Officials of hiding criminal activity behind cryptocurrencies.
Maduro is accused of a narco-terrorism partnership with the FARC for the past 20 years, according to U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman.
"The scope and magnitude of the drug trafficking alleged was made possible only because Maduro and others corrupted the institutions of Venezuela and provided political and military protection for the rampant narco-terrorism crimes described in our charges," Berman added.
Another superseding indictment charges Tareck Zaidan El Aissami Maddah, Venezuela’s vice president for the economy and Joselit Ramirez Camacho Venezuela’s Superintendent for using Sunacrip an autonomous body that is in charge of making the new Venezuelan cryptoasset system to evade sanctions imposed by OFAC against Maduro Moros, El Aissami Maddah, and Lopez Bello.
Previously iHodl reported that the Venezuelan president authorized the opening of a cryptocurrency-focused casino in Caracas that supports the national cryptocurrency Petro.
