UK Warns of Potentially Fraudulent BitMEX Activity

The UK Financial Supervisory Authority (FCA) has notified investors that the BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange did not receive a license to operate in the country and could potentially conduct fraudulent activities, iHodl Russia has learned.

FCA recalls that almost all companies and individuals offering financial services or products in the UK must be authorized. The regulator notes that some companies work without permission, and some "knowingly run investment scams."

"This firm [BitMEX] is not authorised by us and is targeting people in the UK. Based upon information we hold, we believe it is carrying on regulated activities which require authorisation," the FCA said in a statement.

The BitMEX exchange has published a list of jurisdictions whose residents are prohibited from using the services of the exchange, and the UK is not listed among them.
