Facebook will include national digital currencies in its Libra project, BNN Bloomberg has reported citing several sources.
As initially proposed, Libra would be created from a basket of relatively stable assets, such as US dollars and government bonds, euros, Singapore dollars, pounds and Japanese yens.
However, as a result of pressure from regulators, it looks like Facebook will issue separate tokens pegged to national currencies that will be integrated into the Calibra wallet, which was originally designed to only work with Libra.
According to the new plan, Libra will be a payment system based on several cryptos. Sources say these cryptocurrencies may be linked to national currencies. In addition, it has also been reported the Libra Association will soon unveil an updated plan.
At the same time, the Libra Association will keep working on the development of the stablecoin Libra linked to a basket of national currencies.
