Wells Fargo Invests in Crypto-focused Startup

American multinational financial services company Wells Fargo has invested $5 million into U.K. startup focused on cryptocurrencies Elliptic, Co-founder & CEO of Elliptic James Smith told CNBC in an interview.

Elliptic is known for its analysis tools, which it sold to Binance and Circle to track illicit activity.

Wells Fargo Plans to Roll Out Its Own Digital Asset

CNBC states the company has managed to uncover a terrorist group that was using bitcoin to finance its operations.

"If they see payments going between their customers and one of a long list of crypto entities, they can understand more about who that entity is and whether it’s something they should be concerned about," Smith said.

Earlier iHodl reported that a Canadian cryptocurrency asset broker Voyager Digital (Canada) Ltd. acquired an investment app Circle Invest developed by Circle Internet Financial Ltd.
