Crypto exchange for institutional investors Coinbase Pro has just added margin trading.
From now on, the exchange users can open positions with a leverage of up to 3x on all pairs with the US dollar. It must be noted that this functionality is available to retail clients in 23 US states and institutional clients in 45 states and 9 countries.
Margin trading was already available in Coinbase, however, the exchange removed this functionality in 2017 after Ethereum dropped from over $300 to $0.1. Shortly afterwards, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) asked the company to explain what had happened.
Until now, Coinbase was one of the few crypto trading platforms that did not allow trading on margin.
