Popular US crypto trading platform Coinbase has just announced it is expanding its custody service in Europe through a new unit in Ireland, the company has reported on its official blog.
Coinbase Custody was launched back in 2017 with the aim of offering a custody service to institutional investors, hedge funds and family offices.
The exchange has noted that "while Coinbase Custody has served European-based clients in the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and more since 2018, our dedicated presence in Europe will allow us to offer these services in a completely localized way."
According to the press release, this new unit in Europe, known as Coinbase Custody International, will be based in Dublin.
The platform states that "by offering our services from the same region in which our clients are located, it’s our goal that they will benefit from greater legal and regulatory clarity."
The exchange has said it plans to add new assets and features to its custody service in the future.
