Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has signed a decree launching oil sales in national Petro cryptocurrency, France 24 reports.

Maduro pointed out that the goal for the country is to transfer the entire sale of oil into the digital area via Petro.

Maduro also said that from today, fuel for aircraft making international flights will also be sold in the national cryptocurrency.

In addition, Maduro announced that 1 million tons of briquetted iron would also be sold in Petro.

"This decree prescribes the immediate sale of 4.5 million barrels of oil in Petro ... from the reserves of PDVSA," Maduro explained, speaking to the nation.

Previously iHodl reported that the Venezuelan president ordered Banco de Venezuela, the country's largest bank, to accept the Petro in all its branches.
