A multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider Kaspersky Lab has released new research, according to which, the hacker group called Lazarus, allegedly associated with the North Korean government, has begun using the Telegram messenger to steal cryptocurrency.
According to the research, Lazarus distributes malicious software for fake cryptocurrency wallets via the messenger. Kaspersky Lab detected various cases of infection through the software downloaded from Telegram, which sends confidential information.
"We found several fake websites that were still online when we were investigating their infrastructure. They created fake cryptocurrency-themed websites, but they were far from perfect and most of the links didn’t work," the Lab said in its research.
The company also identified that Lazarus has changed the way it infects operation systems so that attacks go unnoticed.
Earlier iHodl reported that the UN Security Council's Sanctions Committee conducted an investigation and found that North Korea had been using blockchain technology to launder money.
